1. HVAC System
What is a HVAC System?
A Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) System is what keeps your home cozy in winter and cool during the summer. You also might refer to it as your Furnace or Air Handler. Its job is to help control the environment within your home by moving air between indoor and outdoor areas, along with heating and cooling your living space. They also filter and clean the air that you breath to keep you healthy.
How can i tell how many HVAC Systems i have?
Most small to average size homes only have one HVAC System, while larger homes tend to have two or more. The best way to determine the number of systems you have is to check your basement or attic and count how many physical systems you have. If you have an older home you may have an AC unit in your attic and a furnace or boiler downstairs; that counts as two separate systems.
2. Supply Vents
What is a Supply Vent?
Supply Vents are connected to your supply ducts, which blow conditioned air throughout the interior of your home. Typically, they are smaller then return ducts and located higher up on the walls or on the ceiling. Also most vents have slats or louvers; they allow you to direct air flow or open and close the vent.
How can i figure out how many Supply Vents i have?
You can easily identify a Supply Vent by turning on your systems fan, and holding a piece of paper or your hand in front of the vent. If you feel air blowing out then its a Supply Vent! Now go around your home, and count how many vents blow air out of them. That will give you the number of Supply Vents you have in your home.
3. Return Vents
What is a Return Vent?
Return Vents are connected to your return ducts, and suck out stale air to be returned to the HVAC System to be conditioned. Typically, they are larger in size and will be found closer to the floor. They also don’t have any kind of slats or louvers, and instead have flater grilles.
How can i figure out how many Return Vents i have?
You can easily identify a Return Vent by turning on your systems fan, and holding a piece of paper or your hand in front of the vent. If you don’t feel air being blown out, or some kind of suction effect then its a Return Vent! Now go around your home, and count how many vents that apply too. That will give you the number of Return Vents you have in your home.
4. Dryer Vent
What is a Dryer Vent?
The purpose of the Dryer Vent system is to transport water vapor, and the lint that accompanies it, to a safe location outside your home. The most commonly seen type of dryer vent is flexible rigid metal ducting. Flexible aluminum elbows and foil tape are used to connect all the tubing. Then a cover is usually placed over the end of the tubing to prevent the heat and moisture from going right up to your roof or damaging an outside wall.
Why should i get my Dryer Vents cleaned?
Neglecting to clean your dryer vents and air ducts can cause more issues than just extra-long dry times and higher utility bills. In fact, 2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year, causing an estimated $35 million in property loss among many deaths and injuries. The US Fire Association recommends cleaning your vent pipe every 3 months.
What do you mean by Disinfecting?
An EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) registered Disinfectant will be thinly applied via ULV (Ultra Low Volume) Fogger to the coils, drain pans and blower of the HVAC equipment.
Why should i have my vents Disinfected?
Simply put, once you’ve had your vents cleaned having them disinfected will help keep them clean for longer. Although we cannot guarantee that 100% of the duct work will be disinfected; it’ll help limit the amount of moisture, bacteria and dust build-up within the duct work.
